One of the most fortunate things about a teaching career is the chance to enjoy a long summer break. Whether you stay in the UK or head further afield, there are plenty of ways to make the most of your summer holidays without breaking the bank. Here are a few of our top tips…

Organise a staycation

Just because you’re not going overseas, there’s no need to feel left out. A staycation is a fantastic way to relax and indulge yourself while remaining in the comfort of familiar surroundings.

We recommend planning your staycation with the same care as you would an international holiday, plotting out events and activities you can enjoy while staying at home. This could be as straightforward as simply taking the time to pamper yourself, or as elaborate as organising a small break elsewhere in the UK, where you can really leave work behind.

Head for an affordable European getaway

If you’re desperate to get away somewhere else for your holiday, then there are lots of great places right on your doorstep. Europe provides a vast selection of destinations to choose from, with the sheer variety of culture, experiences and climate all ensuring something truly memorable – yet helping you stick to your budget, too! Here are a few of our favourites…

• Dubrovnik, Croatia

Situated in the Adriatic Sea, this delightful spot in Croatia has developed a strong following amongst UK travellers in recent years, thanks to its remarkable scenery and budget-friendly accommodation and experiences.

Baroque-era architecture and sandy beaches form the bulk of the offerings here, alongside lush botanical gardens and beautiful cathedrals, monasteries and palaces.

• Santorini, Greece

Offering the perfect summer getaway, Santorini is a romantic location best suited to couples and short breaks. The area is also great for an active escape, with activities such as scuba diving, swimming and snorkeling all supported locally. Sightseeing is another popular way to pass the time, and we recommend taking a good camera to capture the incredible sunsets.

The capital of Iceland, Reykjavik provides some of the most remarkable views in Europe, and supports a thriving indie culture including a buzzing art scene. There is also plentiful wildlife and the chance to enjoy local exploring or simply relax with a coffee at one of the many delightful cafes dotted throughout the city.
